Elephant Bells I. Recycled Copper, Wood & Rope.
A piece from my final work at University and from my Graduation Show collection.
My project was based on my trip to Thailand the previous summer and my experience volunteering with rescued elephants. The work was produced to covertly reveal truths about the tourist trekking trade and the elephants’ lives before being rescued.
This is achieved by the wearer of my jewellery wearing the representations of the same things as a working elephant - the trekking chair, the rope, the chain and the bells that are hung around the elephant’s neck.
It is important that my work asks questions and intrigues people, drawing them in to discover more about the deeper meaning.
